golden idea

Soon I’ll begin painting a large (think…the size of a big screen TV even Jack would appreciate) commission. Three guesses of what…no, not a corgi! The other thing…Notre Dame. A Notre Dame family is furnishing a new condo near campus, and saw the little painting I did of Jack’s car driving up Notre Dame Avenue. It’ll be quite close to that, but the Great Dane Version vs. the Corgi Version. I’m super excited to put paint to canvas on this one, especially since I found early morning Instagram inspiration for the underpainting—a thin wash of color that coats the canvas before the “real” painting begins. Usually I use something that’s best described as a “rosy brown”, but the fantastic artist Teddi Parker posted photos of a golden underpainting. How perfect for a Notre Dame scene. I wanted to do a little practice run (chihuahua) before the Great Dane, and thought one of my Rock Creek Park running trail photos could use a little golden treatment. I do like the warmed up effect, and plan to make it even a bit more bronze/orange-adjacent for the commission. If you like the golden glow of this little guy, contact me for the original (8” x 8”, $195), or prints can be found here: https://fineartamerica.com/featured/1-rock-creek-park-anne-lewis.html
