Another little bird

In the midst of helping Clare with her Common App, I received a “more birds, please” wish from Christy, the daughter of my beloved high school math teacher. What a sweet gear switch from the vicarious parental stress of college admissions. Christy gave me free reign other than size and some level of coordination with the others already hanging in her home. I do love to add printed materials, and decided to dip into my bag of donated previously loved sheet music and that marbled paper I bought years ago! When I only use a sliver every now and then, it sure lasts a long time.

Just a few hours before I painted the bird, my students and I spoke about repetition in art—how repeating a color, shape, or motif can help the eye move across a work. I didn’t even realize how the black and white bounced right up from the notes to the leg, feathers, and eye! Hmm…maybe some things are finally intuitive at 53 ;).

Christy has the original, but prints can be found here: https://fineartamerica.com/featured/bluebird-notes-anne-lewis.html?newartwork=true

Another bird next, but a sadder story…
